At the heart of it, It all comes down to story.

BRANDON ORSON ROBERTS

I come from a place of sensitivity, theatricality, and curiosity. We all see life through our own lens, and I’d like to think my perspective can contribute to something greater than me. I’m not sure what that is, but it smells a little like the collective experience of humanity. I’ve been entertained by different mediums since a child and feel a responsibility to help contribute content of value and substance to this decade. I’m very absorbed by what art has been put before me, and I can’t wait to share stories just as powerful as the ones that give me inspiration.

MELODY, RHYTHM.

SATURATION, COLOR.

MUSIC

I come from a musical background heavily influenced by my Father and the other members in my family. My dad has played drums for a majority of his life, and taught my brother and I how to play from a young age. Rhythm seemed instinctual to me right away, and my passion to explore music was ignited for the first time. I’d continue to pursue multiple instruments as I grew older and would discover I loved anything I could pick up and play. My dad would take me to most of his rock band practices and also work as a party DJ on the side when we were growing up, I’d hear different genres continuously in that setting, especially the 45 minute commute to school I would take with my mom, my grandparents, babysitter’s etc. Everyone would listen to such a variety and I couldn’t get enough, I would grow to be hungry for new music more and more as I grew up. I’d join a few bands, some music productions along the way and develop a love for what music is capable of. Today, I’m full of gratitude to have equipment, a massive library of sounds, and the knowledge to create my own music. I treasure it very much.

RETROGRADE VINYL RECORDS

I first heard a record play when I was 16, and I instantly lost my shit. I could hear a significant difference compared to the sound from my iPod. My great grandparents handed off their collection to me because I was so fascinated. I continued collecting through the years and eventually ended up with a pile amounting over 500 lp’s. I decided to form a business at 23 years old. I really wanted to think resourcefully and appeal to other’s like me. Having played in a few backyard shows in Los Angeles, I knew the same kids my age would love to exchange with physical music as many already do. I promised myself to make sure my prices are always fair, and I’d offer a valuable experience different than what was expected. I began methodically consulting myself on how I’d form a brand with substance. Taking core values of Customer Integrity I had learned from my time working at Disneyland, I’d treat my customers the same as I had learned from one of the biggest consumer industries. There’s nothing wrong with going above and beyond for your guest; I felt an obligation to do more than most record vendors. Each record hand inspected, cleaned, given a paper sleeve, and a plastic jacket. I focused on the experience of the consumer and facilitated a multitude of events to promote musicians and fellow vendors. From backyard shows to bars and nightclubs. With that being said, it couldn’t be just a show…I had to go above expectations with show elements un-utilized in the backyard music scene. This included two main things: playing records between band’s sets (instead of the usual Spotify playlist) and lighting that would operate accordingly to each music act.

LIGHTING DESIGN

I was taught lighting design in a standard theatrical setting from my high school Theatre Design class I felt a joy in the process and sought to learn more at my local community theatre. I had found an opportunity to use my knowledge in lighting design with live musical acts, vendor displays, and product shoots. Like music, I realized lighting can convey a range of emotions, especially when matched together.

GRAPHIC DESIGN

When it came time to market my events, I’d have a specific vision for the theming I wanted to incorporate. Using social media to platform events hosted by my brand, graphic design provided a way to visually convey the tone of the experience I was planning. Through this, I found joy in the process and wanted to design flyers for events I wasn’t even involved in. It’s proven to feel rewarding when I see my artwork shared amongst my peers, especially when it’s used to represent something of significance.
